Reading Log 1

Wednesday 2/28/12  2 hours 1-143

The cover above on the left is the cover in other countries besides the U.S. I have always preferred this company's covers because they are more exciting but this one was SO BORING in comparison to the United States one above on the right. I borrowed it from my friend. I devoured it in one bite and it was just released on March 13th. Oh my gosh, you must read at all costs. (But please read the others first.) Evil cliffhangers and the fact that authors can't write books in a day. These trailers make  lot more sense AFTER you read the book. So don't be confused at first. You're supposed to be.

SINCE I AM TAKING THE TIME TO POST THE LINKS TO THESE TRAILERS PLEASE WATCH THEM!!!!!! (OR AT LEAST THE OUT OF SIGHT, OUT OF TIME ONE BECAUSE IT'S REALLY GOOOODDDDD!!!!!!!!

#4 Only the Good Spy Young OFFICIAL Book Trailer (this one isn't as good as the previous trailer)

#3 Don't Judge A Girl By Her Cover OFFICIAL Book Trailer (some elements it shows about the book may be wrong because it was still in draft form and elements got changed after this was filmed. Not that great either, but REALLY HELPFUL if you're looking for background on the series)

The first two books don't have book trailers because I don't think the publisher even had a channel when they were published. Here's the links to their pages on Goodreads:

So many questions and so little answers. But that's what the second-to-last book in a series does to you. It leaves you on a cliffhanger to the last. And I have to wait FOREVER to read the next one. At which point I will have forgotten everything that happens by then.

Questions:
  • Is Cammie's dad really dead?
  • Will Cammie's mom be able to notify the CIA and M16 about all the leaks, moles, and double agents in time?
  • What exactly happened to Cammie when she was semi-"hypnotized" by Dr. Steve?
  • Was she remembering the music from the circus because the Circle had uncovered that memory over the summer?
  • Will the girls have to secretly go save Preston from his own father amd his terrorist friends?
  • Will the Circle of Cavan ever be stopped?
  • Will something of Gilly's help solve the mystery and end the Circle once and for all?

Don't have quotes but do have evidence because I gave the book back to my friend who lent it to me.

At the end of the book, Cammie and her friends are laying down and thinking about everything that has happened to them over the semester. Cammie looks at the lit window of her mother's office, where she is meeting with many trusted friends/executives to discuss what Cammie narrates to the audience as how to get rid of the "leaks, moles, and double agents" in CIA and MI6.

This piece of evidence goes along with the second question. It is late at night in the P&E (Protection and Enforcement) barn at the Gallagher Academy for Exceptional Young Women (AKA spy school).

Circle of Cavan:
An ancient terrorist organization founded by Ioseph Cavan in the mid-19th century. It is rumored that Gillian Gallagher, the founder of the Gallagher Academy for Exceptional Young Women, loved him. She was forced to kill him though with his own sword at a ball in her mansion where he was in disguise. After Ioseph assassinated President Lincoln when he was still alive, the Circle mainly went into hiding. Eventually, people thought it was only a rumor. But it still existed. Until they finally came out of hiding to track down Cammie Morgan, because she was the only one who might remember the rumored list made by Gillian Gallagher with the names of every member of the Circle of Cavan. She remembered it because her father was searching for it right before he dissapeared and the Circle killed him. And she saw it at the circus when her father received it. Before he died.

Cammie discovered all this information about Ioseph in an earlier book when one of her proffesors explained  it to the class. The later information is an assimilation of the things revealed throughout this book.

The Circle of Cavan is the center of all of the plot now and is the fundamental element of the book's support. Everything is about whether or not it is chasing Cammie, or what it did to Cammie over her summer vacation that made her lose her memory and come back with torture marks.
Reading Log 2

Tuesday 2/27/12 2 hours Pgs: 25-111
This is a trailer some well-informed person made about the movie and what you can expect based on the book. Whatever this is...

From Katniss's perspective, the Quarter Quell is a chance to finally let Peeta win and be the favorite and focus of Haymitch. She will just need to die.
From Peeta's perspective, he will need to die to save Katniss. But at least she'll be safe.
From Haymitch's perspective, this will be the worst Hunger Games yet.
From Gale's perspective, he didn't even get to say good-bye to Katniss before the Quarter Quell seized her from him. He knows he will never see her again.
From President Snow's perspective, the rigged Quarter Quell is the perfect way to get rid of Katniss and calm the districts down.

"Is it possible that this was really the Quarter Quell written down seventy-five years ago? It seems unlikely. It's just too perfect an answer for the troubles that face the Capitol today. Getting rid of me and subduing the districts all in one neat little package (Collins 175)."

In this quote, Katniss is processing the information that she just found about the Quarter Quell. The fact that she will need to be in the Hunger Games again. And that this time she will have to kill the ones she loves, or let herself be killed. Katniss is mulling over the possibility that the Capitol rigged this year's Quarter Quell to stop the rebellion. I used this piece of evidence because it supports my viewpoint for President Snow.

In Panem, the rules are as follows:
  • Only people in the Capitol know about other districts and are privileged enough to never starve and live wealthy, high-class life while the districts must work for their comfort and to ensure that the country can function.
  • Every year, a Hunger Games is held in which one boy and one girl from each district come together in a fight to the death tournament of sorts in repentance and rememberance of the Dark Days and the rebellion.
  • Every 25 years, a Quarter Quell is held of the Hunger Games, a glorified version of the games with different rules and specificities than the regular games. These specificites are usually centered around something bad that should be repented about the rebellion.
  • Each district performs one trade only.
  • Leaving one's district is not permitted as well as knowledge of events outside of one's district in another district.
  • Hunting on Capitol ground is illegal, as well as trading many items.
There are probably many more technicalities, I just can't remember them all.

" 'Unfortunately, not everyone in the districts fell for your act,' he says.
My face must register a flicker of bewilderment, because he addresses it.
'This, of course, you don't know. You have no access to information about the mood in other districts...'(Collins 21)."

This quote is when President Snow is visiting Katniss's house to tell her to convinve the nation that rebellion was not the answer to their problems during her Victory Tour. In this quote, the rule that I list that they don't have access to knowledge about other districts. This part was addressed in the quote.
