Reading Log Week of 12/13/11 - 12/22/11

         Thursday 12/15 Pgs: 1-36 30 min
         and
         Sunday 12/18 Pgs: 37-68 30 min

Here's the link to the awesome book trailer for it by Disney-Hyperion. P.S. I did not read this version with this kind of cover. I think it's the Australian version. It's way cooler than the other one, though! The U.S. version I did read looks like the kind in the trailer. Will Cammie be safe? Will she use a disguise to hide? Did Joe Solomon wake up? Does Cammie know something about her dad's death/was she there to witness it that would cause her to remember it? Was her dad's death hidden in her memory? Does the Circle want to use inhumane methods to recover her memories? Is Cammie's dad alive?

" ' We just want to take you someplace - ask you some questions. Help you...remember...some things' (Carter 243)."
" 'If you kill me, then who will take you to your father?' (Carter 243)."

These quotes are said by Zach's mother (evidently one of the leaders of the Circle of Cavan) when she is having a stand-off with Cammie at a cliff. The first quote says why Cammie is wanted and the reasons for questions 4 and 6. The second quote is Zach's mom trying to get Cammie to come with her because the Circle supposedly has her father. The second quote describes question 7.

Run (v): to depart quickly; take to flight; flee or escape

"With every step, I saw the last semester flashing by - Mr. Baxter staring at me through the dim lights at the Tower of London, holding my hand; Mr. Solomon pulling me onto the cold bridge; Zach gripping my shoulders and telling me to flee the tombs. With every memory, I heard one word over and over like a song.
Run.
Run.
Run (Carter 264)."

The word run is the basis of this entire story. It sums up what this book is about. Throughout the entire story, Cammie is running away from the Circle of Cavan. She may be surrounded by guards or in a safehouse but either way she is hiding and running. In the last quarter of the book she is mostly running. Cammie runs throughout the story for her safety, and, finally, she decides to run away herself to keep the people she loves from harm.
