Reading Log for Week of 4/20/12-4/26/12

Sunday 4/22/12 2 hours Pgs: 1-120

Overtakers: Evil Disney villians that mean to "over take" the park and destroy the world. Many of them, they only come to life at night for the most part.

" 'If the hero and heroine go off to live happily ever after, then what happens to the villains, witches, sea monsters, and evil stepmothers?'

Finn said, 'You're saying because the park makes them real, they are real?'

'I'm saying if you believe strongly enough, anything can happen...' (Pearson 71)."

In this quote, Finn is first hearing about the Overtakers from Wayne, his "mentor" on his hero's journey. Wayne is describing what the very roots of the Overtakers are.

Will Maleficent escape? What does the lighting up of all of the Magic Kingdom and fireworks mean? Are the blueprints important? Does the pen really do anything? Who is the head of the Overtakers? Are Amanda and Jez good witches? Who are they really?

"He wondered if he'd ever know the truth about Amanda, if he'd ever see her again, for she'd been noticeably absent from school that Monday. He thought about Maleficent saying that there were Overtakers far more powerful than she was, and he wondered if more adventures lay in store for him and his new friends (Pearson 322)."

In this quote, Finn is reflecting after the climatic adventure of the story, or his "ultimate challenge" on his hero's journey. The questions and problems he is musing about are the same as my unanswered questions. I too, am curious to know more about Amanda, who she is, and where she is. I also wish to know who the head of the Overtakers is, which might give me an idea of how powerful they are.
